Our History
The Lincoln Hotel is a landmark of industrial endurance. These brick walls once housed the engines of a textile empire, and today, they anchor Biddeford’s social and creative heartbeat. We’ve preserved the bones to make room for the modern pulse.
Industrial Foundations (The 1800s )
Daily life once revolved around the five-minute walk from hillside boarding houses to the looms. The Lincoln Mill bells dictated the city's schedule, signaling the start of shifts for thousands of workers who built Biddeford’s original economic engine.
Millions of Yards (The Early 1900s)
Production reached a fever pitch with the mill churning out millions of yards of cloth and thread annually. Main Street thrived alongside it, packed with open-air street trolleys and a bustling ecosystem of restaurants and shops that catered to the mill’s workforce.
The Shift Toward Renewal (2007)
Following decades of quiet, a massive rehabilitation project on Factory Island proved the potential of these vacant structures. High-end apartments and local pubs moved in, setting the stage for a new era of residential and social life within the city’s industrial core.
The Biddeford Renaissance (2015 & On)
A wave of galleries and award-winning kitchens reclaimed downtown, turning the Mill District into Maine's most compelling destination. The completed Lincoln Mill stands as the final piece of the puzzle: a historic symbol fully restored to its former prominence.
